I had a very strange thing happen to me today. My co-workers and I
decided that we didn't really want to "work" work, so we had breakfast
together to have a 'treatment team meeting'. After that one of my
co-workers and I decided to do some billable hours so we headed off to
our office to drop some paperwork off before starting out.
I
turned onto the street that our office is on and noticed a HCSO car in
a parking-lot. It wasn't parked but rather sitting longways behind the
other cars as if looking for something or waiting for something. I
drove up to the stop sign and he pulled out of the lot, pulled up
behind me and, as I made my left hand turn, turned his lights on.
I pulled over, confused, and he got out of his car right away. He came
up and asked for "Drivers license, insurance, registration," and I had
it all but the registration. He asked me my current address (which I
found dumb since it's on both my license and insurance) and how my
driving record was and I replied, "Spotless." He says to me the usual
do-you-know-why- I-pulled-you-over and I answered that I honestly did
not have a clue, (other than the fact my passenger didn't have her
seatbelt on) and he said I was going 10 mph over the speed limit!
The hell I was. First of all it would have been impossible for me to
have gotten up to 35mph before I saw him. Second of all, I'm not an
idiot; I would not have been speeding because I knew he was there!
He told me he was going to run my license. While he was gone my friend
kept telling me there was no way I was speeding and that the whole
situation was really strange.
He came back and handed my
license and insurance. He told me that he was going to give me a
warning and nothing more. Then he said that I 'needed to find my
registration at some point' because it could mean a $76 citation, and I
asked him if, since I had traded in my Expedition, I needed a new
registration. He looked surprised and said, "No, it's the tag that's
registered, not the vehicle. (Duh). We have all that information in the
computer already. It's nothing you have to rush to get. I mean, I could
give you the citation and you'd have to go through the process of
getting it, then you'd get to court and they'd dismiss the $76, so it's
a pain. Don't worry about it. I wouldn't rush to get it or anything."
Huh? What on earth was THAT traffic stop? At least he was young and cute...
