My mom's memory (or lack of) scares me sometimes. She makes a joke out of it, saying that she's having a "senior moment", or "It's the 'Early A'", but I know it bothers her more often than not.
November 13th is National Memory Screening Day and I think I may suggest that both my mom and dad take part in some of the free screenings offered. There's that brand new Alzheimer's facility near us that is offering free confidentialmemory screenings, so it's close enough that it's would inconvenience them to go. The center will have information on follow up resources if needed, as well as educational materials if they want to take some home. They have facilities offing these free screenings in every state, so please check the National Memory Screening website for locations near you.
Early detection of Alzheimer's and other memory related illnesses is so important! They're constantly finding new ways of helping those who suffer from these diseases, including medical treatment and psychological support. There's nothing scarier that feeling like you're losing control of your life, so why not do any easy screening to see if you or someone you love may benefit from the help that's being offered? There's even some great tips about "successful aging" on the Alzheimer's Foundation of America website that may be of an interest to some people. Help spread the word to people you know, because you never know who you may help.
You may also wish to make a donation towards the research that's seeking a cure of Alzheimer's Disease. Not only will the money you donate go towards the research, but it can make a difference in ensuring quality care for those who suffer from these disease. Too often they're overlooked!
