Cisco IT Certification: It Can Change Your Life!

My brother makes a pile of money. When I say a pile, I mean more money in a year than I see in 6 years worth of salaries. Obviously, I chose the wrong career path!

Where did I go wrong? I turned my back on a career in IT. I thought it would be too "hard", too complicated to learn, and I decided that I wanted to get in and out of school as quickly as I could. However; now I know how wrong I was. With available programs like Cisco certification I could be on the fast track to a career in the growing IT field and be proud of what I do!

I did study some IT stuff in College and did pretty well in the classes, but it was kind of like learning French. I enjoyed it, but I didn't really see myself using the knowledge in the future... Boy do I wish I could have gotten a glimpse into the future! I mean, look at all the IT jobs there are out there now, and how desperate employers are to find qualified people. Have you seen the sign-on bonuses offered lately?! Dang, with that alone I could just about pay off my car.

Of course I could always start training with Cisco and begin a life in the IT field. Cisco offers three levels of general IT certification: Associate, Professional, and Expert (CCIE representing the highest level of achievement), they offer training resources on their website, and even offer webcasts, events, and seminars. For instance, there's a training for those interested in IP Communications which teaches students how to design, install, support, and operate a combined voice, video and data communications network solution as needed in the ever-evolving communication networks of businesses. And, because Cisco understands the demands of people's lives today, they have a number of available training courses in either instructor-led or live e-learning lab-based formats, as well as a variety of custom and online learning options.

Just think of the freedom involved with taking classes at Cisco and the flexibility of the future! Wouldn't it be nice to be in control of your future and to have a nice, comfortable amount of money in your bank account? For me, not having to worry about where the next mortgage payment was going to come from would be reason enough to sign up with Cisco!

Geek

So I went to start studying last night and I couldn't because I didn't have a notebook. Can you say "geek"? Seriously. For a stupid 45 hour course I have to have a new notebook?! Sean even offered to go get me on, but I didn't trust him to get me the right kind! I need a certain ruler width, certain cover, certain number of sections... I have my pens, but no notebook so I couldn't start.

I spent the evening straightening up my "area", cleaning the wood on the desk, and generally "Preparing the Site".

Since I couldn't do the Real Estate stuff I ended up finishing a Progress Test for one of my Holistic Child Care sections and half of the final exam. Hey, at least I got something accomplished!

I think it's going to be a bit harder than I thought, and not because of the material. It's going to be because of the other people in this house! When I went to the computer last night, Sean (from the couch where he always is, of course) asked, "Where are you going? Are you going to sit in there all night?" Um... yeah. That was the plan...

Vacation

My hiatus from the computer was fantastic. It's always nice to regroup away from this thing and remember what's important in life!

I had an awesome time at my Girl's Night Out on Friday. I picked up two friends and we hit the Green Iguana to meet up with some more mom's, only to discover that we were at the wrong GI! We talked about leaving, but we were having a great time so we hung out for a bit. Then we decided to try O'Brian's since I've always wanted to go there and it is in our neighborhood... It's great! We had such a good time there! It's comfortable and there are no hoochie-mamas and guys scamming (for the most part, LOL!), you can sit inside with the live band or outside where, as Peggy so nicely put, "Irish meets Tiki Hut." I'm pretty sure it's going to be a regular spot for us.

Saturday was Ian's football game (they won) and then Ian, me, my mom and dad, Dave, Krissy, and the kids, all went to Palm Harbor for the Touch-a-Truck event. It was great! Ian had a blast climbing all over the big trucks and playing on the playground, and I had a good time hanging out with my family. Ian and I napped when we got back home, and then Saturday night we watched movies.

Sunday I got up early and Sean and I lazed around until Ian got up. I went to Church and, surprisingly, Sean and Ian cleaned the whole house while I was gone! When I got back we went to eat lunch, then napped until it was time to watch the Superbowl.

Monday I kept Ian home because, well, I didn't feel like driving all the way to his school. We hung out and did his workbooks, then my mom came by and we took a picnic lunch to the park. It was great to just hang out and be with them!

Tuesday I was sick and spent the day in bed, but then felt OK by mid-afternoon after I got the call I've been waiting for these past weeks! I will be starting work on Monday (I got to choose between Monday and Thursday so I had to do some quick thinking!), so I turned on my computer and did some on-line research on couches. I found one I liked and, that night, we bought the couch and some end tables/coffee table. I didn't mean to buy them, but I decided since we're done having kids I should treat myself to some furniture that's decent!

We got the sofa in a rich brown color, not this tan thing. It's great because it reclines, but the lever is under the arm rest so there isn't that stupid wood bar on the outside of the sofa.

These tables are great! They have slate on the top and the brown is really brought out by the couch. I'm changing the motif of the house so I'm hoping these are a good start.

Today we had the observation of the ELPs class. It's a great program but I think Ian is a bit advanced for it. I think we're going to keep Ian where he is and request the speech therapist go to his school, then we'll revisit it in August. There are a lot of reasons why, but I'll get in to it more tomorrow. Right now I'm going to bed!

Learning

Today I have my class at Church and I can't wait. I was surprised when I went to the first one because I found out it is a real course and much more involved than I thought it would be. It can actually be used to count toward hours of study if you're trying to fulfill the requirements they have for becoming a Practitioner, so this isn't just some group that sits around and discusses the Universe. I have actual homework that I have to turn in, LOL!

Parts of the homework I didn't do because, well, it was a bit 'too much' for me. This has been a bad week for many, many reasons and to do what they were asking was just a little too emotional. I'll make it up next week.

I'm still interested in getting my online degree as well, but I think I may have to wait a little bit for that. "Going" to school online is easier than physically going to class, but I still have my real estate continuing education to finish. I need to get going on that!

I was talking to my friend yesterday and I told her that I have another course of study that I want to pursue. I started to laugh because I have to still do my continuing education for my real estate license, I'm still working toward my holistic childcare degree, and I am going to take some graphic arts courses. I just love to learn!

I had to reschedule Ian's hearing screening because of his ear infection so it's now in two weeks. I advised his teacher today and we got to talking about her son who's in speech therapy and has been for about three years. We discussed the necessity of having a good Tutor in your child's life if it's determined that they need the extra help.
